REHEARSAL & SHOW DAY ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL:

Please ensure that your dancers arrive at the venue in full costume, complete with the required hair and makeup (the hair and make-up details are listed below). Note that makeup is not allowed in the lobby area or auditorium. Each dancer must have at least one parent or guardian accompanying them to the dress rehearsal. We request that you do not drop off your dancer, so please plan accordingly. Ensure dancers have their costumes, shoes, water bottle, and belongings. Please label all belongings. Students will remain backstage for the entire performance and will be under the supervision of our staff. Only staff members will be permitted past the check-in station. We limit admission to the backstage area for the safety of our dancers. You may pack a snack and water bottle for your child. Please be mindful not to pack messy snacks that can stain costumes or spill. No peanuts, please.

Before checking in, please make sure your child uses the bathroom, and then proceed to the Dancer Check-In Station. On the day of the show (not dress rehearsal), a wristband with your child's name and a number will be given to you. The wristband is required for the parent or guardian who will pick up the child after the show.

Our staff members will escort your dancer backstage to meet their classmates. They will also assist with costume changes, escort them to the bathroom (if needed), on and off the stage, and back to the check-in station for pick-up after the rehearsal. Students will remain backstage for the entire performance and will be under the supervision of our staff. For the safety of our dancers, only staff members will be allowed beyond the check-in station.

Once your dancer has been checked in, you may take your seat in the auditorium.

SHOW DAY DISMISSAL: After the show, all dancers will be dismissed at the Dancer Check-in station. ONLY THE PARENT WITH THE WRISTBAND will go to the Dancer Check-in area to pick up dancer. Other guests can proceed to the common area. Please allow time for this process. This is a time to show patience and appreciation for our backstage staff, who worked so hard to make the show run smoothly and to keep your children safe!

COSTUMES

  • To ensure no costume issues, dancers should not wear their costumes or performance tights before dress rehearsal and the show.

  • All costumes require tights, except for certain Hip-Hop costumes.

  • No underwear is to be worn on dress rehearsal or recital day. We do not want to see your panty lines! Skintone bras or leotards are required for those dancers who need them.

  • We ask that dancers wear natural-colored nail polish or natural nails without polish and keep earrings to simple studs. Please remove any bracelets/anklets, necklaces, and rings.

We encourage dancers to bring all costume pieces, accessories, and shoes in a garment bag with a hanger with their NAME CLEARLY LABELED on the outside. This will help staff move dancers quickly to and from backstage. REMEMBER: LABEL EVERYTHING! Costumes, shoes, tights, bags, water bottles, etc. Do not bring any extra items that can be lost or broken.

HAIR

Pull hair back from face and secure it with an elastic band. Dancers with short hair must pull their hair back out of their face. Use hairspray and gels to control flyaways. If a hair accessory came with the costume, it should be worn on the dancer's right side.

  • Pre-K, Kinder, and Mini Classes: Neat, sleek low bun or high bun.

  • Jr. & Teen Classes: Sleek low-ponytail or bun.

STAGE MAKE-UP

It is not uncommon for dance parents to have some reservations about having makeup applied to their child’s face.  It is extremely important to understand that without stage makeup, a dancer’s facial features will not be defined or visibly clear to the audience.  Stage makeup creates a clear face from a distance. Unlike everyday regular makeup, stage makeup is more dramatic so that the dancer’s facial features are more pronounced. Dancers are storytellers who project words and emotions through movement. For dancers to properly tell the story to the audience, they will need their entire bodies, including their facial expressions, to be visibly seen. But, with bright lights shining on the stage, a dancer without stage makeup will appear washed out. Stage makeup is key in enhancing and highlighting your dancer's facial features and expressions to be seen from a distance.
